Welcome to the Brown Community!
'Community' may be defined as a set of people with some shared element — in particular, people who live in the same area, and who usually interact with or depend on each other in some manner. Brown International Academy interacts with and depends on its community every day! Comprising students, staff, parents, and neighbors of the school, we welcome one and all to participate.
This page contains information about projects, events, and other community happenings at Brown. Feel free to check back often for updates.
PTO/BPAC and CSC The Parent Teacher Organization and Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee (PTO/BPAC) and the Collaborative School Committee (CSC) offer opportunities to build relationships among Brown parents, teachers, administrators and neighbors so we can all better support our kids. Pow Wow The celebration of Native American culture takes place every year at Brown International Academy. As a location for the American Indian Focus Schools Program, Brown is proud to celebrate this heritage. Native American children comprise 10 percent of Brown's population. Brown Community Garden We are proud to be creating a community garden in partnership with Denver Urban Gardens. This is a wonderful community building activity and an opportunity for children to learn about where food comes from. Most of our fundraising efforts this year are directed toward the garden. We invite all families to participate! Download the application, fill it out (insert "Brown Community Garden" as the garden name) and return the form to the front office at Brown. Or, contact Sheana Bull to request an application form. Read about the ground-breaking event that took place March 15, 2008!
Chain Reaction “Chain Reaction” is a large mural on the school playground painted by the students of Brown International Academy’s mural club. It is the final product of a yearlong partnership between the elementary school and Temple Sinai, a synagogue in Southeast Denver. Learn more and view photos here!
International Spring Festival We held our first annual International Spring Festival on April 27, 2007. The fundraiser was a successful community building event, and the weather cooperated for this indoor/outdoor festivity! It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to learn about other cultures from around the world while also enjoying festival games, foods and performances with their families. Read highlights of the festival and view photos to get a flavor for how the day fared.
BrownElementaryFamilies Yahoo! Group This online Yahoo! group was created by neighborhood families (it is not a Brown-sponsored activity) and is intended for families with children who currently attend or plan to attend Brown. The purpose of the group is to foster a sense of community for our children and to provide a convenient vehicle for communication between members -- as well as provide a forum to voice concerns, plan volunteer efforts, and share ideas on how Brown families can work together! Join BrownElementaryFamilies Yahoo! Group.
Free the Children Free the Children is the world's largest network of children helping children through education. With programs focused on addressing the primary cause of poverty -- the lack of education -- Free the Children uses an asset-based community development approach to help children through school-building, health care, sustainable income support, and peace- building. Brown is proud to be working on fundraisers to support Free the Children and has plans to adopt a village to assist needy children. Learn more about it at www.freethechildren.com.
