The ECE Experience

Celeste:

Welcome ECE Families!

For many of you, this is a first experience with Brown International Academy, and perhaps with any school for your child. Below is some information you might find helpful as we begin the school year. If you have any questions about this information, please feel free to call the front office staff at 303-477-1611 or your child’s teacher. Also feel free to seek out other parents and attend PTO meetings to remain informed.

Drop-off and Pick-up

ECE students in room 110 are dropped off and picked up at the ECE classroom door on the school’s west side (this door is in the middle of the building). ECE students in room 102 are dropped off and picked up through the school’s main entrance on the west side. All ECE students should be dropped off at 8:50 a.m. Be sure to talk to your ECE teacher about pick-up time and location for half-day students.

Classroom Schedule

Your child’s teacher will describe the classroom schedule on Back to School Night. It will be different for half-day and full-day students.

Lunch

Walking to the cafeteria and buying lunch is a new experience for our full-day ECE students. As a result, Brown staff ensure that children quickly learn the routine. Classes line up and walk to the lunchroom together, where those who brought their own lunch go to sit at a table, and those buying “hot” lunch are helped through the lunch line by the paraprofessional.

Lunches cost $1.40 (full price) or 40 cents (reduced fee). You may pre-pay for multiple lunches via MyLunchMoney.com, or give cash or a check to the cafeteria staff. Remember to sign up online before the first day of school, or pay staff on the first day when you drop off your child. Your child will have a lunch card in the classroom that he or she will give to the cafeteria staff; the paraprofessional will return all lunch cards to the classroom. Children with free or reduced lunch will have a lunch card that works the same way. You may read the lunch menu at foodservices.dpsk12.org/menus or in the menu distributed monthly by Brown.

Bathrooms

Bathrooms for ECE students are in the same hallway as their classrooms. Your child will be assisted, only if needed, by an adult in using the bathroom.

School Information and Updates

The school and the PTO regularly produce newsletters packed with information. Students receive these and other informational flyers in their take home folder at the end of each week. Please encourage your child to bring this information home to you and to return the folder to the teacher on Monday.

Before- and After-School Programs

Kaleidoscope Corner is available before school from 6:30-9:00 and after school from 3:45-6:00 for full-day ECE students. Kaleidoscope staff drop off and pick up the children from their classrooms. Kids typically spend their time working on projects in the cafeteria and playing in the gym or on the playground. More information on Kaleidoscope can be found at kaleidoscope.dpsk12.org/.

Depending on parent volunteer interest and funding, Brown makes available an array of before- and after-school programs. To volunteer, please return the Brown Volunteer Opportunities packet to the front office.
