First Day of School Logistics
What to Expect the First Day of School
- The first
day of school is posted on the DPS calendar. On the first morning of the school year, all students should gather on the playground on the east side of
the school (ECE
students and parents should go directly to their classroom). Each classroom teacher will have a sign with his/her name and
classroom number, and students will gather with their class to be led to their
classroom when the bell rings at 8:50. Parents are welcome to accompany their child to
the classroom for a brief time to help them get settled.
- If you have not yet completed registration for your child at Brown International Academy, please
go to the front office by entering the doors on the west side of the school. The staff there will help you register and
provide you with your student’s classroom location and teacher’s name. You must
register your child prior to sending him/her to class.
- Welcome booths with
refreshments will be setup outside the school and volunteers will be available
to answer questions and provide you with school information.
- At the end
of the day, students in grades 1-5 and kindergartners in room 107 will be
gathered outside of the doors on the playground on the east side of the school
– parents are asked to pick up their children there. Please
do not pick up your child inside the school because it is disruptive to
learning that is occurring in our classrooms. Kindergarten students in
rooms 108 and 109 will be picked up on the kindergarten playground. ECE
students in room 110 will be picked up at the ECE classroom door on the
building’s west side. ECE students in room
102 will be picked up outside the school’s main entrance, also on the west side.
- Parking for drop-off is
available on all streets around the school. Spaces directly in front of the
main west-side doors are reserved for buses, so please do not park there. Also
be mindful of the city’s street sweeping no-parking times, which vary by street
(April-November).
- Bicycle stands are available to
those students who are riding their bike to school. They are on the east side
next to the cafeteria doors and Community Garden.
- Lunches cost $1.40 each; the
reduced fee is 40 cents.Lunches may be
paid online at MyLunchMoney.com, or directly to the cafeteria staff using cash
or check. Students are issued a lunch card by their teacher in the classroom,
and they give the card to cafeteria staff when buying their lunch. The
paraprofessional will return students’ cards to the classroom for them.
Children with free or reduced lunch will have a lunch card that works the same
way. Lunch menus are distributed monthly by the school and are also available
online at http://foodservices.dpsk12.org/menus.html.
- Please
have your child bring a backpack (marked
with first and last name) for storing homework, weekly take-home folders,
hats/gloves and a lunchbox, if he or she brings lunch to school. ECE and
kindergarteners keep their backpacks in the classroom; grades 1-5 hang them up
in the hallway.
If you have any questions, feel free to call
the front office staff at 303-477-1611.
See you at Brown!
