The most important thing I want to reiterate is that the PTA is here to engage our community in the success of all our children. We want to do this by building collaborative relationships with all of you and providing resources that support the needs of our school.
We have also developed a new grant funding process. Do you have ideas for things you would like to see in our classrooms, on our playground, in our curriculum? Do you know of fantastic teacher training opportunities or field trips that would provide our kids with spectacular learning experiences? What if I told you the PTA would give you money to put those ideas on paper and make them happen?One of the ways we are doing that is by creating a transparent PTA budget. The attached budget document shows at a high level what the PTA income and expenses were last year and what we are proposing for this school year. You’ll see that our expenses are based on priorities identified in last year’s community survey, which we had broad community participation in. (If you are interested in more detailed financials, they are always posted here.)
Attached is the PTA’s request for proposals. We want to hear your ideas about what we should spend our money on. Just read and fill out the form and turn it in to the main office by no later than 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26. At our next meeting, Oct. 2, we will host an open house –
and we encourage everyone to come and learn what proposals the PTA has received.
PTA members will be asked to vote on which proposals to fund. Anyone can become a member at any time for just $10 a year (and you can sign up and pay online here). We are encouraging not just parents, but teachers, staff and students to become members and tell us which projects they most want to see funded.
We’re also soliciting ideas for a “big project” that we can focus our fundraising efforts on over the next year or two. So if you have a particularly big idea, don’t be deterred. We want to hear about it.
If you have questions, please let me know. We are very excited to get this process going and time is short between now and the deadline. If you miss this funding cycle, we’ll have another available in January as well.
Hope to see you all at Back to School Night or next Friday’s community movie night — we’ll be showing The Lego Movie on the field at dusk on Sept. 19. We will have the new Brown baseball jerseys, sweatshirts and track jackets available at both events. All proceeds help us fund these great community events.
