Meet PTO President Tracy Reynolds: 2007-2008 School Year
Question and Answer with Tracy Reynolds

How long have you lived in northwest Denver? I am a native of Colorado, having grown up in Montbello for 17years. I moved to Capitol Hill for five years and have been in northwest Denver for the last 10 years.
Tell us about you and your family. My daughter, Pearl, is 9 years old and she is in the 4th grade in Ms. Rumfelt's class at Brown. I also have a 15-month old son who keeps me busy. I read voraciously, I sell Avon, and I sometimes help my husband, Charlie, with his painting business. I'm so lucky to be a homemaker because I get to spend time with friends, be at the school with Pearl, and spend time with my baby every day.
What is your vision for Brown over the next few years? I would love to have more before and after-school programs in place. I also want to continue to draw new students from outside our immediate neighborhood, while maintaining our core of Brown neighborhood families. More family nights at school would be great. And I’d love to get air conditioning units in classrooms because the second floor is very hot!
What do you hope to achieve with the PTO this year? Our goal is to raise $10,000 with our three biggest fundraisers - the Fall Festival, the Pow Wow and Spring Festival. We haven't yet planned where the money will go, other than the science lab, so we are open to ideas about that. I think we can be of use to the teachers, by contributing funds to their classrooms. I want the PTO to get more assistance in planning and implementing our big events, and I really want to work with the Student Council and help them with their causes and fundraising efforts.
In your view, what does the ideal parent involvement at Brown look like? Parent involvement can take many forms, ranging from volunteering in the classroom, coming to school events, and reading the newsletters to stay apprised of what is going on at the school, to reading at home with kids and helping kids with homework. I understand that a lot of parents work full-time and can't always come to the school, and it's hard to make time for school even if you aren't working full-time. However, we have an obligation and a responsibility to our children to be as active in their lives as possible.
What is the most rewarding aspect of being involved with a community like the Brown families, staff, and kids? It is so gratifying to feel the happiness and warmth I have encountered in my relationships with everyone I’ve met at the school. When school resumed this fall, I was glad to be back because it felt like I was at home again. There is so much diversity at our school, and it's great to see different cultures, religions, and people working together for their kids.
