Every PTA role is part of a relay — not a solo sprint. With PTA elections coming up for the 2026–27 school year, we’re inviting you to jump into the mix.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll spotlight leadership roles from the perspective of the very real humans filling them now — what the roles are actually like, how support is built in, and why they said yes in the first place.
First up: the behind-the-scenes magic makers who keep everything organized, connected, and running smoothly.
🏃♀️ Passing the Baton: PTA Secretary
Currently run by:
Meghan Sivakoff (2nd grade parent)
What I love about this role:
I get a front-row seat to how the PTA actually works — and I get to collaborate with a smart, fun group of parents I probably wouldn’t have met otherwise. It fits well alongside my 9–5, and bonus: I meet monthly with the principal, so I’m always in the loop (which feels a little like having insider access 😉).
Something that might surprise you:
This isn’t just note-taking. The Secretary connects the dots across the PTA and helps decide what information gets shared with the community. I like to think of it as organization with influence.
Favorite school event:
Fall Festival and the 5th Grade Haunted House. School spirit — but make it spooky.
Why did I say yes?
Room parent spots were already full, but I still wanted a meaningful way to get involved. The Secretary role became a great entry point into PTA leadership and a fast way to see how everything fits together — from supporting the IB program to uplifting teachers, students, and events.
What the next runner should know:
You’re not starting from zero — and I’m not disappearing! I’ve documented a lot and will happily help you get settled.
Curious?
If you like lists, calendars, or quietly being the reason things run smoothly, this role might have your name on it.

💻🏃♀️Passing the Baton: Vice President – IT
Currently run by:
Haley Busche (1st & 4th grade parent)
What I love about this role:
This role makes everything else possible. It’s not flashy — it’s foundational. When emails go out, payments process, directories are accurate, and accounts are set up correctly, the PTA runs smoothly. You quietly power almost every event and initiative. It’s impact without spotlight.
Something that might surprise you:
It’s kind of the glue. Everyone uses the platforms — but someone has to make sure they’re ready to go. When it’s done well, nobody notices. Things just work. That’s exactly how you want it.
What the next runner should know:
You do NOT need to be an IT person. If you can Google, follow a tutorial, and click around bravely — you can do this. This role is more determined and curious than tech wizard.
Baton Promise:
I am not vanishing into the night. My name is tied to half these accounts anyway — I couldn’t escape if I tried 😅
I’ll train you, answer panicked texts, and celebrate your first “It worked!” moment. You will not be left alone with Stripe and a prayer.
Favorite school event:
Movie Night. It feels like the opening ceremony of the school year — blankets everywhere, popcorn, glow sticks, that first hint of fall in the air.
Why did I say yes?
Because if you want connected families, supported teachers, and clear communication, you have to step into the arena and help build it. I also want my kids to see what that looks like in action.
Plus? I’ve met incredible humans through the PTA. Zero regrets.
Lightning Round ⚡
If this role were an Olympic event?
Curling — because most of us don’t fully understand it, but there’s a plan, precision, and someone guiding everything so it glides exactly where it should.
