Hello! My name is Mariel Sears and I am happy to serve the Brown International Community as a literacy interventionist and special education teacher in kindergarten and first grade. Here is a little about me! I began my career as a second grade teacher in New Jersey, before moving to Colorado in 2010. This next school year will be my 14th year as an educator (8 years in Denver Public Schools)! I have taught kindergarten, second, and third grade, including previous experience at an IB school. The joy that comes from teaching students how to read, and my experience supporting students with diverse learning needs makes me very excited for this role!

When I’m not teaching, you can find me at my sewing machine, on the beach in Mexico, cheering on the Denver Nuggets at Ball Arena, playing volleyball, skiing, or reading a good book. I love spending time with my family- my husband, Jeb, our almost one year old daughter, Cecilia, and our large puppy Bodie! I can’t wait to get to know the students and families of Brown!
